You've got a voice that's all your own; let's make it emblazon the page! I'm Andrea Hope, a writer and editor who references the Chicago Manual of Style and Merriam-Webster's Dictionary and Thesaurus. I have helped several authors publish poetry manuscripts and children's poetry, and have been praised for my attention to detail and open communication. As a writer myself, it is of utmost importance to me that I maintain the author's literary voice while making appropriate corrections and suggesting improvements.

...but how do you edit a poem?
That’s a great question that I also asked myself when starting out. Besides correcting misspellings, typos, and grammatical errors, I focus on reviewing style, flow, word usage, and readability for your target audience. For example:
Love Poem
Each time we are together
I find another reason to love you
I like the way your hair falls in your face
as your running in order to catch the train,
the way your body sways to the rhythm
of our favorite song on replay
Grammar: The word "your" should be "you're" in the fourth line.
Style: The author seems to purposely leave out punctuation in general; however, one comma is used.
Flow: Because of the whimsical nature of running to catch a train, I would suggest removing "in order".
Word Usage: The word “like” has become overused and therefore less expressive. I might suggest "I adore, I treasure, I’m enamoured by, I can’t help but smile at ... the way your hair falls in your face”.
Readability: I would suggest the target audience is teen to young adult.
My editing rate for poetry manuscripts is .013 cents per word or $20/hour. If you are low-income and would like to barter services, please contact me.

What clients are saying:
Outstanding job! Andrea proofread my poetry manuscript on a very tight deadline. She completed the job within a day and found errors that other readers, including my editor, had missed. She noted her corrections clearly on the PDF and also in a separate document. I'd definitely hire her again.
